Gift Ideas for A New Mom
Being a new mom is a weird place to be. Yeah, I’m 3 years in, but I still feel pretty new at it.
Maybe I just have Taylor Swift on the brain after all of the ticket trauma, but the best way I’ve seen it described is by her song, 22: “Yeah, we’re happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time; It’s miserable and magical, oh yeah…” (I know, she’s not describing motherhood, but it’s a pretty spot-on description if you ask me!)
Being a new mom is one of the highest of highs and lowest of lows all at the same time. It’s full of joy for this new life yet mourning that you can’t soak it up as much as you should be able to. You want to be everything to this person who needs everything from you, but it turns out you’re pretty needy, too.
If you have someone in your life who is a new mom and you want to take care of them, first and foremost consider all of the love languages and what you think they would like most. I found that “Words of Affirmation” and “Acts of Service” were particularly helpful in the new-mom-season of life…send them a text with encouraging words, pray for them, bring them a meal, clean up their kitchen, fold a load of laundry, run an errand, etc.
But, if you are looking for a gift, especially as we approach the holiday season, this guide is for you. Below I’ve rounded up some of my favorite gift ideas for new mom.
- Baby Carrier – Baby-wearing is a little bit like having your cake and eating it too… You get to hold your baby, but you also have your hands free!
- Diaper Bag Pouches – These are the cutest diaper bag organizers I’ve found. Added bonus is that they’re CLEAR, which is very helpful for those of us with ~mom brain~.
- Stain Remover – This stain remover works like magic. An absolute essential once baby starts eating solid food.
- Baby Closet Size Dividers – Keeping baby clothes straight is more difficult than it looks. They’re constantly growing, they cycle through laundry rapidly, and sizing is inconsistent. You can take some of the challenge out of it with these closet dividers that easily separate each size group.
- Simple Modern Tumbler – Staying hydrated is so important, especially for new moms who are breastfeeding. I know Stanley tumblers are all the rage right now, but I personally prefer this Simple Modern one for its simplicity.
- Haakaa Breast Pump – Most breastfeeding moms find great success with this manual breast pump while nursing on one side and using it on the other (especially in the morning). What does this mean? You can stock up a milk supply without spending extra time pumping, which means more time for mom!
- Diaper Cream Applicator – Avoid getting diaper cream on your fingers using this silicone applicator. I think babysitters really appreciate it as well 😉
- Car Seat Magnets – Keep your car seat straps out of the way with these magnets.
- Stick Vacuum – I’ve always liked clean floors, but nothing like when my first baby started crawling. A cordless stick vacuum makes it so much easier to clean up, you could even do it with baby in-hand! (The Dyson was my favorite gift the year I had my first baby.)
- Laundry Basket with handles – This is something I recently realized would have been great… because moms never have enough hands! A traditional laundry basket usually requires both hands, but this one with handles would free up one if not both.
- Leggings with pockets – Remember what I said about not having enough hands? That’s why leggings with pockets are so great for moms. And these are the BEST. I honestly can’t believe they are only $25!
- Ember Mug – There is an ongoing joke about how moms always need to reheat their coffee, and it’s so true. That problem is easily fixed with this brilliant mug that keeps coffee warm all morning long.
- Dry Shampoo – I’ve experimented with a lot of dry shampoo recently, and this one is the clear winner. It smells great too!
- Silk Scrunchies – Again with the hair… we don’t have time to do it. But these scrunchies make those mom buns look extra cute.
- Facial Sheet Masks – These are my favorite spa activity for those who don’t have time for spa activities.
- Kindle – My Kindle often cures my anxiety-induced insomnia 🙂 I love to read, but reading in the middle of the night is almost sure to help me fall asleep when all else fails.
