Round-Up: Traveling With Kids
Happy March! With spring break season coming up, I wanted to do a quick bonus post to round-up my past posts about traveling with kids. We travel quite a bit with our children (currently ages 1 and 3), and I’m always looking to optimize our approach and make sure we’re as organized as possible. So if you have an upcoming trip, check out these travel posts from the past:
- A Guide for Flying with a Baby
- Minimal Mess Snack Ideas
- Packing List: Diaper Bag
- Packing List: Baby
- Packing List: Toddler
- Packing List: Pool/Beach with a Baby
- Packing List: Ski Trip (list for adults)
This year we’re going to Florida at the end of March. We usually fly, but this year we’re driving. We’ve done a lot of 2-hour road trips with the kids, but nothing much beyond that, so I’m sure I’ll learn a lot over the course of the next month about long drives with littles. But in the meantime, in case you’re preparing for a road trip as well, I will leave you with the list of advice I received from my recent question box on Instagram:
Tips for Road Trips With Little Kids (from friends)
- New toys/surprises every hour or so
- So many snacks!
- Wait on electronics until necessary
- Try audiobooks or stories first
- Note from Maggie: We love Cocomelon Story Time on Spotify! Trust me, it’s completely different than the show.
- Make a playlist of favorite songs and have a car seat dance party
- When it comes to screen time…
- You can rent tablets from the library (!!!)
- If you’re new to the tablet, practice with it at home ahead of time to avoid frustration in the car
- Be sure to download favorite movies & shows ahead of time
- Toys ideas:
- Interactive books
- Melissa & Doug Poke-A-Dot books
- Melissa & Doug Water Wow! books, or any other “magic” water painting
- Tape books
- Busy boards
- Stickers
- Glow sticks
- Car games
- Sound machine & blanket for sleep (or even Benadryl)
- Dramamine
- Abandon rules and survive (haha!)
Thank you to everyone who contributed!
I’ll be preparing for our road trip to the beach over the course of the next few weeks, and I look forward to sharing more soon.
Happy travels!
