How to Store Those Tricky Hair Tools
There is nothing more annoying than working around a bulky hair dryer on the bathroom counter. But I find that hair dryers, and all hair tools for that matter, are some of the most difficult things to consistently put away and store appropriately. Lately I’ve been searching for a better way to store hair tools so that I’m actually inspired to put them away consistently, and here’s what I’ve found.
The Best Locations to Store Hair Tools
Under The Sink
My absolute favorite location to store hair tools is under the sink. Bulky items deserve the biggest space. And they are out of sight yet easy to access here.
Freestanding Acrylic Hair Tool Organizer (also comes in black and white) — This is the product that I just purchased, and I’ve been loving it. It holds all of my products and tools, and it’s beautiful. I keep it under the sink, but because of its handle, it’s very easy to pull it out and put it on the counter while I style my hair.
The Home Edit Hair Tool Bin — This bin also looks beautiful and has great ratings. I think it would work well on top of some drawers. Just be sure to measure to make sure it will fit under your sink!
madesmart Hair Tools Caddy — This is another option that would be useful because it is a caddy, so it can easily be put away and pulled out only as needed.
Mounted: On The Cabinet Door on On A Wall
There are many mounting options for hair tools. Mounting is a good option because hair tools are bulky, so they don’t fit in a traditional space very easily. Mounting the tools helps take advantage of vertical (and otherwise unused) space.
My first choice would be to mount on the cabinet door to avoid having the tools out in the open. But that is just a personal preference. If you don’t want to damage the cabinetry, a nearby wall is also a great option.

White Plastic Wall Mount Hair Dryer Holder
Shein Plastic Wall Mount Hair Dryer Holder — This option is incredibly cheap. So much so that I am suspicious… But it seems to have great reviews!
In A Drawer
This can work if your drawer is big enough. You need to be able to easily fit the hair tools in without having to excessively reconfigure each time. And it’s also best if you can put your hair tools away right after use, which means they need enough room to breathe as they cool off, and to be stored in a way where they don’t touch cords.
Silicone Heat Resistant Mat — When I kept my hair tools in a drawer, I kept a silicone heat resistant mat in the drawer to prevent it from getting damaged.
The Home Edit Silicone Hair Tool Holder — If your drawer is big enough, this could be a good option.
On The Counter
Freestanding Acrylic Hair Tool Organizer with Drawer (also comes in clear and black) — I love how much overall storage this piece has. If you’re going to take up counter space, best to do it with something that can serve multiple functions, like this.

Cut Off Tags
Maybe this is common sense, but it wasn’t to me. For years and years I have been operating with the warning tags still on my hair tools. I think maybe it felt illegal to me to cut them off? (Haha!)
It was only recently when I went to photograph my new hair tools holder that it even occurred to me to cut the tags off. And WOW, it’s just so much easier to wrap the cords up. I wish I would have done this years ago!
Contain The Cords
Speaking of cords… If you take one thing away from this blog post, let it be this: contain your cords. The cords are the #1 barrier to easily putting away your hair tools, and if not properly wrapped up, they completely get in the way. All of the tools I shared above will not work if the cords are a mess.
You can simply wrap the cords around the tool itself (probably not around the hot part, though), or you can try one of these reusable cable ties to tie the cords secure: Velcro cable ties or magnetic cable ties.
Put Them Away Immediately
This entire post has really been leading up to this: put your hair tools away immediately. Make it a habit. I just timed it, and it took me 15 seconds. Something that small should always been done right away.
If it’s going to take you longer to put them away, identify the reason why. Are you having to let them cool down? Is your storage solution to difficult to access? Find your barrier, and then do what you can to remove it. There are a lot of different options, so consider shifting some of your other toiletries around to try a completely new approach.
Once you’ve figured out your system, it’s just a matter of sticking to it. Once it’s a habit, you’ll be so grateful to reclaim your counter space.
