The Best Products for Organizing Toiletries

Welcome to Week 4 of Organizing Tricky Items! This week we’re once again talking about organizing toiletries…because they are a piece of work. If you struggle with your toiletries, start by reading last week’s post for some overall strategy. Then, once you have your plan, come back here to find the right product for your space and your things.

Organizing Toiletries

The Best Products for Organizing Toiletries

First things first: always measure before you buy. I know it’s a pain, but it’s way less painful than having to return items that don’t fit in your space. Go measure right now!

Okay, good job, now we can proceed…

In Drawers

I typically prefer to store toiletries in containers that can be wiped clean, because toiletries are likely to spill or drip, and so it’s important that the containers are easy to clean. These small trays are my top choice for a bathroom drawer, because they can be rearranged to fit the small space. And since these are small containers, these will work best for small items (hair ties, chapstick, etc.).

Non-Slip Clear Plastic Trays

stackable clear trays are great for organizing toiletries

Stackable Clear Acrylic Trays (This is a variety pack; you can get more of each specific size here.) — If you have deep drawers, these are a great option because they are stackable, so you could have multiple layers of storage.

Rotating Cosmetic Display Case with Adjustable Height Shelves — This turntable has adjustable shelves, which would be great for accommodating all of those different-sized bottles.

Brightroom hinged bamboo organizer

Brightroom Hinged Bamboo Organizer — I love how this combines form and function with its unique hinge opening mechanism. It would a great storage solution that could also be displayed on top of a counter or vanity.

Under the Sink

The key with under-sink storage is optimizing the height and depth of the space while working around the pipes. I love how these options do just that:

2-tier under-sink shelf

2-Tier Under Sink Shelf — This one comes with adjustable dividers for the top shelf. But I have this, and I actually don’t use those. I prefer to store small things in small spaces (drawers, medicine cabinets, etc.) and large things in large spaces (like under the sink). But each space is unique, so it just depends what you want to store!

3-tier under-sink shelf

3-Tier Under Sink Shelf — More shelves, but less space for each one.

lazy susan with dividers

Lazy Susan with Dividers — A Lazy Susan or turntable is great for under the sink, because it allows you to easily access items from the back.

2-Tier Lazy Susan — This Lazy Susan takes advantage of the height component too!

On a Shelf or In A Closet

I like to use our linen closets for “back-up” toiletries or rarely used items, like travel toiletries. Because of the nature of the space and having less of a need for small divisions and categories, this is a great space for large bins or compartments. I truly treat some of these bins as dumping grounds sometimes… But that allows me to focus more of my organization efforts on the toiletries that I use every day.

wave basket from Room Essentials

Room Essentials Wave Medium Storage Bin — Target has a bunch of affordable options for large plastic bins.

bins with cut-out

Bins with a Cut-Out Window — A cut-out window is nice when you have larger bottles that can stand independently, and you want to be able to easily see all of them.

plastic open front bins

Small Plastic Open-Front Bin

tall stackable plastic drawers

Taller Stackable Clear Plastic Drawers — You can rarely go wrong with drawers! These are a great large option. And again, I like clear so that you can see everything.

Organizing toiletries is usually an ongoing process as you and your needs change over time. I hope some of these containers inspire you to see your space in a new way that serves your current routine. Happy organizing!
