The Best Fiction Books That I Read in 2022
I love to read, and last year (2022) I read more books than ever before—78 to be exact! Before you feel impressed, please note that I listened to all but 1 of them… I simply prefer audiobooks to podcasts or music, so I listen to them all throughout my day: while I drive, workout, do chores around the house, etc. As we enter a new year, I know some people might be setting some reading goals for themselves, so I wanted to share my favorite reads of the past year. Today we’re starting with my favorite fiction books!
My Favorite Fiction Books from 2022
General Fiction / Novels
Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson
Utterly delightful. It’s a weird premise, but once you get used to it, it’s a super fun read about cute kids and other likable characters.
Anxious People by Fredrick Backman
Fredrick Backman writes the some of the best characters, and Anxious People is no exception. What I most love about his writing is that it makes you understand and love people who are at odds with one another, which has a way of opening up your mind to other people’s perspectives in your own life. It’s truly brilliant writing.
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Oh boy. I didn’t want to like this book at the beginning, but the character development won me over. I LOVED the lessons of the main story line, and I loved how real and raw it was.
Romance
Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn
These are my guilty pleasure, especially in February when I’m in a more lovey-dovey kinda mood. I don’t actually think the writing is that amazing, but they are still so fun to read if you love a period piece and/or romance.
Goodreads | Amazon (Book 1: The Duke and I)
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
This is the fastest I’ve ever read a romance novel and the first time I’ve ever cried from one… Why? I don’t even know. I just found it delightful, and I fell in love right along with the characters.
Mystery + Thriller
Mystery has always been my favorite genre, even as a kid! So it’s no surprise that I have the most recommendations from this category.
Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
I was hesitant about this book at first. It was confusing and I didn’t get where it was going. But towards the middle, it started with some twists and turns, and then I couldn’t put it down! And I don’t want to say too much… But I just absolutely loved the ending.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
I get why this is a classic. I was shook. And the cherry on top is the fascinating twist that this is told from a therapist’s point of view, so there is a very physiological aspect to it.
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
I love the way that Lucy Foley develops characters and slowly reveals the twisted web that contributes to the mystery at hand. This one was particularly fun with its fascinating setting. The plot moved a little slowly at points, and there weren’t very many things to like about the characters, so I was thinking it would only get 3.5 or 4 stars from me…until the end, then BAM, 5 stars.
The Maid by Nita Prose
The development of the mystery in this book was a bit weak, but overall I loved reading it because the main character was fascinating and so likable.
Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier
Although this book was hard to read as a parent, I was absolutely fascinated by the mystery and character development. Couldn’t put it down, loved trying to guess the end… classic signs of a good mystery!
His & Hers by Alice Feeney
Very creepy but VERY GOOD. I had a million theories and truly couldn’t predict which one was right until the very end. Alice Feeney is a queen of thrillers, and this book might be my favorite of hers.
